In 1881, a patent was obtained by a German, A.Michaelis, for making "Sand-lime Brick" by reacting an intimate mixture of lime and sand with steam under pressure at 130-300ºC. Subsequently, this process was industrially developed in Germany in 1984. Britain was the other pioneer country to start production on Calcium Silicate Brick in 1904.
The early history of the industry was related almost entirely to the production of bricks of 'common' quality. It was only in strength, varied colours and textures were produced which brought the industry into the position of great potential that it now enjoys. Scientific research on raw materials, new manufacturing factors influencing product properties and new ideas for making better and more diverse products have been responsible for this rapid development. Thanks to the intensive research on the refinement on the manufacturing by fully automated plants designed for mass production.
Calcium Silicate Bricks are now produced and accepted worldwide: in Europe covering as far as the USSR, Australia, America and more recently in the Middle East countries. Throughout the world wherever Calcium Silicate Bricks are produced, demand for them is increasing. |
